Over $48b in foreign currency allocated for imports since Mar. 2025

TEHRAN – Iran has allocated $48.7 billion in foreign currency for the import of various goods since the start of the current Iranian year (late March 2025), with 73 percent directed to the industrial sector, the spokesperson for the Iran Exchange Center said.

Asghar Balsini said on Sunday that traders carried out foreign-exchange transactions worth $122 million on Saturday, bringing the total value of deals in the commercial currency market this year to $24.18 billion, according to IRNA.

He said the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has supplied a total of $48.72 billion in foreign currency for imports of different goods so far this year.

Of the total, $35.55 billion was allocated to industry, Balsini said, citing official central bank data.

The largest shares went to the transport and automotive sector with $7.04 billion, electrical and electronic equipment industries with $4.64 billion, machinery and production equipment with $4.24 billion, and chemical and polymer industries with $3.65 billion, he added.
